On July 4, 2021, the Cyberspace Administration of China, the country’s top internet watchdog, ordered app stores to remove Didi Chuxing for alleged illegal collection and use of users’ personal information. The move requires Didi to rectify its problems according to laws and national standards to protect the safety of users’ information.

The concern is whether Didi Chuxing has packed or leaked data information.

There is no doubt that authorization is necessary for access to any app. Like most apps, Didi Chuxing must collect certain amounts of user information. There is potentially valuable knowledge to be gained from this kind of data collection. The data possessed by Didi Chuxing might directly reflect China’s economic vitality and population distribution, and some of it may even concern national security.

GDF researchers believe that the decision to remove the app reflects a problem shared by many apps一although the combination of service and authorization can obtain users’ private data, it might possibly violate some laws, depending on the region. This restricts the expansion of app users geographically and limits a broader data use at the policy level.

A Dapp, or decentralized application, is an app built on a (usually public) blockchain which can be accessed without authorization. In other words, problems surrounding personal information, service provision, and security can be solved technically, thus greatly facilitating data sharing. However, the data established on the blockchain is not the basic information of users, but rather encrypted versions一NFTs, in this case一of the original data. Combined with artificial intelligence technology, it can accurately reflect the interests and market behavior of the users.

In addition, blockchain technology is more open to data federation. GDF’s multi-party secure computation technology can realize intelligent applications such as private queries and federated computation among mutually distrusted parties. The cross-chain DeFi applications provide value for resource integration of the data-based blockchain. For example, those who take part in GoodData’s liquidity mining can enjoy the ecological resources of public blockchains such as GoodData and HECO simultaneously.

As a data-based public blockchain, GoodData can deeply integrate valuable information, unlocking higher data value, and build a global data sharing ecosystem. For example, the data-based NFT can determine the practicability of data according to its market performance; in liquidity mining, more valuable data tokens can be identified according to their rates of return一the higher the turnover efficiency, the more liquid the physical assets are. On the GoodData blockchain, all kinds of data can be efficiently transferred among users all over the world without the disclosure of private information. When a corresponding data demand in the market appears, data providers and users can rapidly interact using the Dapp on the GoodData public blockchain, realizing transactions through the GooD token .

Compared to the traditional apps, GoodData’s Dapp has better privacy protection for users, removing users’ worry about the illegal abuse of data and unearthing the value of data to a greater extent. It can also appeal to a wider range of users, and thus provide services for more people.
